Kalaw to Inle Lake Grand Traverse (3-Days
/ 2-Nights Treks)
The Grand Traverse guided walk is a fantastic
3-day adventure, blazing trails leading
to the Palaung, Danu, Taungyo and Pa O territories
to the spectacular western shores of Inle
Lake traversing mountain peaks, valleys,
and ravines. The overnight stops will make
at a local village house and a monastery
– great opportunity to learn the tribes
and monastic life up close.

Kalaw

Have your breakfast at the hotel
before leaving Kalaw for 3-days
trekking tour to Inle Lake, at about
8:00am right from your hotel by
heading to west. After two hours
hike along the steep slopes where
tealeaves and other seasonal corps
are growing; you will firstly reach
to a Palaung village of Ywathit
(literally means New Village). Then,
visit another village closed by
called Taryaw, which is only 15-mins
away and of the same tribe by passing
through a forest of Tha-naq-phet
(Sebastian trees) where the leaves
used to wrap the Burmese Cheroots.
Then head for the south for around
30-mins hike to reach the View Point,
where you could enjoy the stunning
sceneries of Shan mountain range
while having your lunch. Afterwards,
continue to Hinkhagone village of
Danu tribe for around 1-hour and
then another 1:30hr to Myindeik
village of Taung Yo tribe, where
the trains from Yangon and Mandalay
make a stop to load flowers and
vegetables produced in the region.
Finally, take another 30-mins easy
trek to the last village of the
day, Ywapu for dinner and overnight
stay with a family of Taungyo people.

Ywapu
– Lupyin – Lamine – Bawkae – Konghla
– Pathubauk – Hti Thein
Have your breakfast at Ywapoo village,
before taking the longest walk of
this trip. Today, you will turn
east towards Inle Lake and enter
the territory of Pa O tribe passing
through scenic valleys and mild
slopes growing cabbages, potatoes,
raps, wheat, garlic and many other
seasonal corps. As you walk by the
farms, greet to the farmers or learn
their socio-economic lifestyle.
Leave Ywapu for Lupyin village where
Taung Yo and Danu tribes live together
for 30-min hike. Then to Lamine
village of Pa O tribe for another
45-min across the motor-road that
leads to neighboring Kaya State,
and continue trek to Bawkae (also
Pa O) for another 1:30hr. Afterwards,
trek 30-mins to Konghla of Danu
tribe for lunch break. After taking
a brief rest, take a long trek to
basket weaving Pa O village of Patubauk,
which will take approximately 2-hrs
by climbing into a ravine before
reaching up to the village. Then
the last village of the day, to
Hti Thein village of Pa O’s for
dinner and overnight stop at the
village monastery. |

Thein – Kyauk Su – Nguk – Than Taung
(or) to Inn Dein
Enjoy your breakfast prepared by
your guides. The last day trekking
trip will begin early in the morning
to complete the last leg. Break
the day by beginning with a strenuous
hike to Kyauk Su village (Pa O).
Approximate an hour-long trek along
the forest-clad trail and the steep
slopes will take you a mountain
peak with the stunning views. Then
start descending to Nguk village
of mixed Pa O and Inn Thar tribes
for another 1-hour trek. This segment
of trek will give you a motivation,
as you will see the vast waters
of Inle Lake lays deep in the valley
below. The big descending will begin
from this village (almost 350m)
to Thaung Taung villag of western
lakeshore for another 1-hour trek
through deep gorge and lush green
forests. Afterwards, an easy walk
to the jetty for around 45-mins
along the bamboo grooves, rice fields
and a creek feeding waters to the
lake. Finally, transferred to the
hotel by boat and take leisure.
(Alternatively, the last leg of
the trekking trip can be rerouting
to reach Inn Dein, a village on
the northwestern shore of lake connected
by a fast flowing creek. However,
the tour of this village and surrounding
area is included in any of our tour
in Inle Lake region.) |
